Broadcast journalism

I had dreamt of walking into the newsroom for the first time, publishing my first article, and leading my first pitch meeting. Broadcast journalism was never something I envisioned doing. However, when Maroon Crew News, produced by the spirit squad, was discontinued, News Media was there to take on the challenge of creating broadcast pieces, diving headfirst into video production and audio editing. This was an opportunity to elevate the production quality of my community's broadcast journalism. This was also a learning process. Coming into News Media, I was comfortable using Canva and was learning Adobe in Graphic Design class; still, I wanted to ensure that our videos were professional, informative, and visually engaging, delivering content that was both captivating and true to our journalistic mission. With each segment and every video, both the News Media team and I developed, interviewing important school figures, celebrating extracurricular wins, and promoting upcoming events in episode form. Today, The Maroon News is a cornerstone of how our school consumes news—a form of journalism that owes its very existence to the effort and vision News Media brought to the table.
